How to Speed up Your Windows Based Personal Computer?

If you are the frustrated owner of a personal computer that is operating slowly, you are not alone. Many people up and down the country, and across the world are experiencing similar problems with their computers. A common response to dealing with a problem of this type is to throw money at it. Indeed, some people find their frustrating workstations so difficult to deal with that they end up replacing a perfectly good PC with a brand new one. Of course, in some cases, ordering a replacement may be a necessary course of action to take. Although, in many cases it will be wholly unnecessary to do so. So, in the remainder of this article I will provide you with some useful tips on how to speed up your PC without forking out a fortune for a new system. These tips can be used by anyone and you will not need to be a computer expert to apply them.

1. Free up space on your hard disk. Having items on your system that are surplus to requirements have the unfortunate consequence of reducing performance. Be sure to delete and uninstall any programs and data that you aren't using. You can uninstall programs in the control panel area. Be economical with what you need and ditch what you don't need. You can use the Windows disk clean up option to delete superfluous temporary data. Another way to free up space is to empty your recycle bin. I know this may seem obvious but you'd be surprised how many people forget to do this. So make you sure you do this, and do so regularly. Deleting your internet history will also help you to acquire more space as these files have a habit of being quite large.

2. Check Windows for updates. Check whether your operating system has the very latest updates from Microsoft. You can toggle updates on-or-off via the control panel. Having these updates installed ensures system stability and can protect it from outside threats such as viruses which can cause your computer to slow down or even lose functionality altogether. I recommend keeping updates on at all times. You will need to be connected to the internet to be able to download the newest ones. If your copy of Windows is not genuine you will not be able to download updates.

3. Do a defrag. Once you have performed a clean up using the steps above you will now want to utilize a process called defragmentation. This process will speed up your PC by organizing files in such a way that allows your hard disk to access them faster. You can perform a defrag by selecting the option in the system-tools menu. You should defragment your drives twice a month to keep them in a healthy and optimal state.

4. Check your hard disk for errors. Perform a hard disk at least once a month Bad sectors in your hard disk that aren't repaired can cause your PC to become sluggish. Go to your start menu then run chkdsk.exe. The process may take a while depending on the size of your disk but it will be worth it. Many people overlook this procedure but I must stress that it is as equally as important as any of the other steps I have mentioned.
