How to Change Windows Server 2008 R2 Local Administrator Password?

There was ever Windows server 2008 R2, which was used as auxiliary domain server and virus firewall security center. Probably because of local server administrator debugging, administrator password was set as another password instead of general password according to rules. After a long time, it was forgotten because it was not used usually. At this time, reinstallation becomes one of the choices. But in order to avoid some trouble, such as resetting configuration for some service ever on Windows server 2008 r2, we gave up. And having trying to boot server 2008 r2 from WINPE disk, and clearing password from SAM file, but all of them didn't work on server 2008 r2.

Even though all these methods are not available for changing Windows server 2008 r2 password, a way has been certified as effective for Windows server 2008 r2 password reset.

Point of method:

Through alternating file, bypass Windows logon and add local administrator or modify administrator password with Command Prompt.

Detailed operation introduction:

Step 1: Boot Windows server 2008 r2 with WIN PE disk and turn to WindowsSystem32.

After Windows server 2008 boots from WinPE disk, find WindowsSystem32. Or boot Windows server 2008 r2 from installation CD, and after completing installation image disk load, enter Language Selection interface, press Shift + F10 to open Command Prompt window and navigate to WindowsSystem32.

Step 2: Look for osk.exe file and delete or backup it on another disk partition.

Step 3: Copy and rename cmd.exe as osk.exe in Windows System32.

Step 4: Restart computer, and wait for computer boot completely. Click the "Ease of Access" button at the left bottom and click "OK" on the pop-up dialog "Do not use the keyboard (screen keyboard).

Step 5: Because of the file replacement, CMD interface is opened instead of screen keyboard.

Step 6: Change local administrator password with command "net user".

For example, suppose you don't know the administrator original password, and you want to set it as "12345". Type the command "net user administrator 12345" and press Enter.

Step 7: Reboot server 2008 r2 again and login into computer with administrator and new password normally.

Step 8: Rename osk.exe in WindowsSystem32 back to cmd.exe. And copy osk.exe to WindowsSystem32.

Create a boot Windows 8 password reset USB disk

Step 1. Launch WPU and insert your USB stick.

Reset Windows 8 password with the boot disk

Step 1. Insert the boot USB disk in the locked PC that you want to work with, and boot the PC. While booting, please remember to press the right key to access BIOS, then configure the PC to boot from the boot USB disk.

Step 2. WPU, with all user accounts in this computer listed, will open after BIOS settings. Make the user account that you want to reset password of selected, and then click Reset button. In seconds, the password will be cleared.

Step 3. Click Reboot button to restart the PC and remove the boot USB disk while restarting. When the Windows 8 sign-in screen appears, access the target user account.

That's it! It's very easy! Aside from WPU, you can also try Ophcrak. But this free recovery tool doesn't support Windows 8. But you can try it if you forgot Windows 7 password.

Note: If you're afraid that someone clear the password using a boot reset disk, you can set a BIOS password or encrypt your computer.

How to Set a Power-on Password to Acer Laptop?

Do you take interest in setting a power-on password to Acer Laptop? A power-on code can be either an administrator account or a BIOS password which can assist you to stop other people from easily getting into laptop without correct password. 2. Setting BIOS password in the Acer BIOS. And this way includes the 2 methods below.

Method 1: Install Acer Empowering Technology and use Acer eSettings Management to set a BIOS password. This method contains the following 4 steps.

Step 1: Download and install Acer Empowering Technology in your laptop. And if you have already finished installing the software, you can skip it and move directly to step 2.

Step 2: Click the Start button on the laptop to open the Start Menu.

Step 3: Point at All Programs, choose Empowering Technology and select Acer eSettings Management.

Step 4: Click BIOS Passwords at the bottom of the Empowering Technology interface and set password with Create Password option.

Note: As for step 4, you can also choose to create BIOS Supervisor Password first, and then set BIOS User Password. However, if you do not set the former in advance, you are not able to create the latter, as it is shown in the following picture.

Method 2: Enter into the Acer BIOS and set a user password in the Security menu. As to the concrete procedures, please refer to the steps below.

Step 1: Immediately and continually press Delete or F1 as you start your acer laptop until the BIOS Setup Utility screen pops up.

Step 2: Choose Security by ?/? key, select Set User Password in the menu by ?/? key and press Enter, as the following screen shot shows.

Step 3: Enter a password and reenter it as the next interface prompts. And it could be English letters, numbers or the combination of them.

Step 4: Press F10 and click Yes to save the changes and exit the BIOS.

No matter which way you choose, you are able to successfully set a code to your Acer laptop by yourself. Meanwhile, you can share the knowledge with your family members, friends, colleagues, and many other people.

How to Remove BIOS Password

As it is known to us, BIOS password is useful in protecting computer safety and can stop other people from changing BIOS setting as well as booting the computer system. However, what should we do if we forgot BIOS password to our computers? This article will recommend the following 3 ways to remove the BIOS password.

Way 1: Removing the CMOS Battery with the 4 steps below.

Step 1: Turn of the computer, and unplug the power cable.

Step 2: Open the computer host, locate the motherboard, and find out the small coin sized silver CMOS battery as the following picture shows.

Step 1: Find out the Motherboard Jumper by reading the motherboard manual, or look for the Jumper labeled as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc. FYI, there are 3 pins and the Jumper will joining the center pin with left pin or right pin.

Step 2: Move the Jumper to join the center pin to another pin. That is, if the center pin is joining with the left pin, and move the Jumper to join the center pin to the right pin.

Step 3: Move the Jumper to connect the center pin with the original pin again after a few seconds.

Way 3: Using BIOS backdoor password. And Dell computer is taken as an instance here.

Step 1: Start the Dell computer, and immediately press F2 in a continuous way to enter the BIOS.

Note: As to other brand computers' BIOS backdoor passwords, you can search them in the internet because they are changed at times by their manufacturers.

Step 2: Type Dell into the "BIOS Password" prompt interface and hit Enter. Then you will be taken to the main BIOS screen.

Step 3: Select Restore Defaults from the BIOS menu and press Enter. This step will restore your BIOS back to its original settings.

Step 4: Choose Save Changes and Exit, and hit Enter.

All in all, the 3 ways above are helpful for removing the BIOS password. If you do forget the BIOS password to your computer, you can choose one of three ways to remove it so that you can enter the Windows system interface and start the computer again.
