How to Multitask on Your Windows 8 Based PC?

The Windows 8, which is the latest Windows operating system (OS) released by Microsoft in October 2012 has introduced many new features for both desktop as well as laptop and tablet users. The OS has been released with two different environments including one for the desktop users and other for the users of tablets and other touch-enabled devices. However, it offers the same old desktop environment but it is not the same for the users of Windows 8-based Metro style apps.

Users of metro-styled users sometime face difficulty in handling many applications at the same time. Multitasking becomes a puzzle for the users who start developing a notion that the older interface is more suitable for multitasking. But don't worry as this is just a misconception and don't hold any truth. In this article you have been provided useful tips and information that will help you handle multitasking on Windows 8-based PCs in an easy and smooth manner.

Microsoft says that the Start Screen as well as most of the Windows 8 apps have been designed keeping in view the touch devices. Like Apple's iPad, these apps are meant for full screen in which users generally can't resize their window to open more than one app at a time. This creates problem in multitasking.

This article offers you tips and information about how to do multitasking in Windows 8 and Windows RT devices. For multitasking it is essentially required that devices must support a snapped state for multitasking in Windows 8. However, majority of the apps running on Windows and Windows RT support snapped states but many third party apps on Windows store might not. Remember, snapped states don't work on the devices that offer less than 1366 x 768 pixels of screen resolution.

Below listed is the step-by-step guideline for enabling multitasking on Windows 8 devices:

First of all go the Start Screen of any application you want and swipe from the left to the right edge of the home screen of the appNow drag the opened application back to the left of the screen till the time when you see the black multitasking barDrag the app which you want to occupy the two-third of the screen from the multitasking bar to the screenNow again open the multitasking bar by swiping from the left of the screen to the rightDrag the application which you want to take one-fourth of the screen from the multitasking bar to either left or right of the screen. You need to hold the apps until it resizes itselfAs of now, Microsoft allows users to run only two applications at a time on the screen with ratio mentioned above. But as Microsoft has already released Windows 8.1 Preview in which users will be able to view as many as seven applications simultaneously.

You must remember that although you are not allowed to see more than one or two Metro-styled applications simultaneously but off course you can run many apps on the Windows 8 in the background without having them to be seen by the user or anyone. One such app is Xbox Music that doesn't require users opening the app for playing music.

How to Speed up Your Windows Based Personal Computer?

If you are the frustrated owner of a personal computer that is operating slowly, you are not alone. Many people up and down the country, and across the world are experiencing similar problems with their computers. A common response to dealing with a problem of this type is to throw money at it. Indeed, some people find their frustrating workstations so difficult to deal with that they end up replacing a perfectly good PC with a brand new one. Of course, in some cases, ordering a replacement may be a necessary course of action to take. Although, in many cases it will be wholly unnecessary to do so. So, in the remainder of this article I will provide you with some useful tips on how to speed up your PC without forking out a fortune for a new system. These tips can be used by anyone and you will not need to be a computer expert to apply them.

1. Free up space on your hard disk. Having items on your system that are surplus to requirements have the unfortunate consequence of reducing performance. Be sure to delete and uninstall any programs and data that you aren't using. You can uninstall programs in the control panel area. Be economical with what you need and ditch what you don't need. You can use the Windows disk clean up option to delete superfluous temporary data. Another way to free up space is to empty your recycle bin. I know this may seem obvious but you'd be surprised how many people forget to do this. So make you sure you do this, and do so regularly. Deleting your internet history will also help you to acquire more space as these files have a habit of being quite large.

2. Check Windows for updates. Check whether your operating system has the very latest updates from Microsoft. You can toggle updates on-or-off via the control panel. Having these updates installed ensures system stability and can protect it from outside threats such as viruses which can cause your computer to slow down or even lose functionality altogether. I recommend keeping updates on at all times. You will need to be connected to the internet to be able to download the newest ones. If your copy of Windows is not genuine you will not be able to download updates.

3. Do a defrag. Once you have performed a clean up using the steps above you will now want to utilize a process called defragmentation. This process will speed up your PC by organizing files in such a way that allows your hard disk to access them faster. You can perform a defrag by selecting the option in the system-tools menu. You should defragment your drives twice a month to keep them in a healthy and optimal state.

4. Check your hard disk for errors. Perform a hard disk at least once a month Bad sectors in your hard disk that aren't repaired can cause your PC to become sluggish. Go to your start menu then run chkdsk.exe. The process may take a while depending on the size of your disk but it will be worth it. Many people overlook this procedure but I must stress that it is as equally as important as any of the other steps I have mentioned.
